Seoul Travel Diary - Part III

Day five in Korea, Trish and I were back in Seoul . It was a day dedicated entirely for a visit to Nami Island. After doing hours of research on how to get to Nami Island. we ended up taking the subway. Though the most convenient way is to take the shuttle bus you must have a reservation, thus we were left with no choice but to take the more complicated means.

It took us one-too-many train transfer. It was really convenient that we have the T-Money Card, which can be used in subways, bus or taxis, and is ideal for making multiple journeys. Travel time was more than an hour, but we hardly felt it because of the adrenaline rush and adventure we got from reading subway signs, transferring to another line, getting in and out of the train, and stalking some of the locals and fellow tourist in a non-creepy manner.

Then we got off at Gapyeong Station, where we took a taxi to Namiseom. From there, we passed the immigration, bought tickets and board the ferry. We were dropped at the port and set-off to wander aimlessly around the Island. Nami Island is such a beautiful sight. Every corner has beauty that appeals to all your senses.

The island is planted with chest-nut trees, birches, ginko trees, and maple trees that makes up the beautiful tree-lined paths. The trees were working harmoniously together, gently pulling us in and making us fall deeper in love with the place. We spent a good while just staring, snapping a few photos in between, then stopping to stare again.

Nami Island offers as well bike rentals. Options are single bike, couple bike, four-seater family bike and sky bike. Trish and I opted to rent the single bike. At first I felt uneasy riding the bike, probably brought about by the trauma I've got from my recent bike accident. But since this is part of our Korea bucket list, I pushed myself to pedal and cruise around.

It was really fun and exciting. We did not even mind that we were wearing dress. What we mind were the cheesy couples on the tandem bike. We also pause once in a while to take a good bike shot, thinking 'this picture could have been perfect if...'

The walk does get a bit tiring, especially when we try to go to every single corner. Thus we took a break and found ourselves eating pretzels and coffee at a picnic table while we tell each other how much we want to go back here, in a different season, with someone special.

It is difficult not to feel the romance of Nami Island. Especially when you see hearts everywhere and shooting scenes of the Winter Sonata. The place is just so magical, I never expected being in this nature with the dreamy sun rays would have such a positive effect on me. I just want to breath it all in.
