Siargao Travel Diary

Mike and I spent an incredible week in Siargao Island, and once you've been there it is still difficult to get the coconut trees, salt water and mountain views out of our system.

The hundreds of photos I took on our trip won't do our time away justice, but I still would like to share my favorites and hope you'll get an idea on how amazing our stay was and how beautiful SIARGAO is.

CLOUD 9

The island is well known as the surfing capital of the Philippines. And if you want to try and experience the big waves they are all talking about, Cloud 9 is a must go. We went there around 7am, when the waves would form thick, hollow tubes, and you get a view of the surfers showcasing their skills and surf tricks. Pretty amazing, hope I get to do that someday.

Note: You can stay on the viewing deck for free :)

MAGPUPUNGKO BEACH

This has got to be my favorite spot in Siargao, it was my first time to swim on a natural pool where sea water gets trapped at low tide, and you get to experience the waves coming from the ocean. Also the rock formations were amazing, you just have to stop and wonder how all of this beauty is possible.

Note: You get an unlimited access to this for an entrance fee of 50Php.

SUGBA LAGOON

Another pretty hidden area in this island, is the Sugba Lagoon. Our stay here was pretty quick because we went there around four in the afternoon, and there were no more tourist around, so we got the place all to ourselves, however swimming alone in this wide and deep blue ocean will really give you the creeps. We were actually imagining crocodiles beneath us.

Note: There is actually a bamboo raft for rent, in case you get tired or scared of swimming.

NAKED ISLAND

On the day of my birthday, we decided to go island hopping. When we landed at Naked Island, I was in awe with how pristine and serene the place is. It is literally naked, all you will be able to see is the sand bar surrounded by the clear water. It feels like i'm in a different world, surprised how such a place exist. We spent hours swimming and enjoying the water. The best part is it is not crowded and exposed at all so you can freely move and have fun absorbing all the rays on our skin.

Note to self: Must try skinny dipping next time.

DAKU ISLAND

True to its name - Daku which means Big- is really one huge island, with an abundance of coconut trees, your eyes wont ever get tired of the view. We arrived here noon time when the exposure to sun is extreme but the sunburn stings were totally worth it. My favorite part is our lunch time where Mike and his mom prepared a feast for my birthday, and I also were surprised that they got a cake for me.
Again we got the beach to ourselves, since tourists would just normally lie in the sand to get tanned.

Note: There are cottages you can rent here for 200-300 pesos, and the locals are very generous and friendly.

GUYAM ISLAND

Guyam is a very small island where we spent the rest of the afternoon floating in the water while talking non-stop and savouring the moment as much as we can.  Normally, tourists would just pass by this island since there is nothing much in here, but still it is a beauty so we stayed for a while waiting for the sunset.

Note: The island hopping cost 1500 pesos, good for 8 persons already.

These are just a few of the things you can do in Siargao, I tell you, the beauty of this place is so amazing, I would want to wake up everyday surrounded by this. I am truly blessed that  I get to experience it, thankful to Mike and Laobo for making this happen.
